The Jacobi/Montefiore Emergency Medicine Residency Program of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine was established in 1975 and is one of the oldest programs in the country. Jacobi was the first medical center to create an Emergency Medicine residency in New York City. Jacobi, as an urban trauma center and municipal hospital, provides residents with a distinctive county hospital experience. In 1996, Montefiore Medical Center was added as a second training site lending its immense resources as a tertiary care center and university hospital.  In 2013, we have expanded our residency, accepting now 21 highly qualified physicians to our intern class.  We have also expanded our clinical experience by incorporating the Emergency Department at the Weiler Division of Montefiore.  In total our residents will participate in caring for over 250,000 patients per year.

Our program is known for training a unique type of resident with a signature style that is sought after within the Emergency Medicine community. It boasts one of the largest alumni networks in the country having graduated over 400 residents.

The mission of our PGY 1-4 training program is to ready our residents for every emergent situation with a sense of calm and confidence while providing the best care possible to every single patient they encounter.
